Chemical abundances of A and F-type stars: the Hyades open cluster

چکیده
Abundances of 11 chemical elements have been determined for 29 F and 19 A dwarfs (“normal” and chemically peculiar with apparent rotational velocities ranging from 11 to 237 km.s−1) members of the Hyades cluster using Takeda’s (1995) iterative procedure well suited for fast rotators. High quality spectra of high to moderate resolution have been synthesized to derive the apparent rotational velocities, microturbulent velocities and abundances of C, O, Na, Mg, Si, Ca, Sc, Fe, Ni, Y and Ba. For the F stars, the found abundances are compared to the predictions of Turcotte et al.’s (1998) evolutionary models for the age of the Hyades. We fail to find the expected underabundances for light elements nor the overabundances for the ironpeak elements for stars having effective temperatures greater than 6500 K. This suggests that diffusion alone cannot account for the derived abundances: other transport processes which counteract diffusion are probably at play. For the A stars, abundances of Na, Mg, Si, Ca, Fe, Ni and Ba are anticorrelated (correlated for O) with the apparent equatorial velocities for ve sin i higher than ∼ 100 km.s−1. Below this value, we find no correlation in agreement with the predictions of Charbonneau & Michaud (1991) except possibly for the abundance of Ni which might be anticorrelated with ve sin i. The fastest rotators (ve sin i ≥ 150 km.s−1) are strongly depletted in Mg, Si, Ca, Fe, Ni and Ba (between −0.3 dex and −0.94 dex) while their O abundance is normal.

Membership , metallicity and lithium abundances for solar - type stars in NGC 6633
We present spectroscopic observations of candidate F, G and K type stars in NGC 6633, an open cluster with a similar age to the Hyades. From the radial velocities and metal-line equivalent widths we identify 10 new cluster members including one short period binary system. Combining this survey with that of Jeffries (1997), we identify a total of 30 solar-type members. We have used the F and ear...
متن کاملSearching for Planets in the Hyades IV: Differential Abundance Analysis of Hyades Dwarfs
We present a differential abundance analysis of Hyades F-K dwarfs in search for evidence of stellar enrichment from accreted hydrogen deficient disk material. Metallicites and relative abundance ratios of several species have been determined. We derive a cluster mean [Fe/H] = 0.13±0.01. Two stars show abundances ∼0.2 dex larger than the cluster mean. Additionally, one star, which was added by a...
متن کاملLithium in the Coma Berenices open cluster
Lithium abundances, radial velocities, and rotational velocities are reported for 20 candidate F, G and K stars of the sparse Coma Berenices open cluster. All the stars are proper-motion selected, and our radial velocities support the membership credentials of at least 12 of the candidates. Combining our data with that in the literature, we have a close-to-complete census of Li abundances for l...
متن کاملWIYN/Hydra Detection of Lithium Depletion in F Stars of the Young Open Cluster M35 and Implications for the Development of the Lithium Gap
We report discovery of significant depletion of Li on the surfaces of F dwarf stars in the 150-Myr-old open cluster M35, analagous to a feature in the 700-Myrold Hyades cluster that has been referred to as the “Li gap.” We have caught the gap in the act of forming: using high resolution, high S/N, WIYN/Hydra observations, we detect Li in all but a few M35 F stars; the maximum depletion lies at ...
متن کاملOxygen from the λ7774 High-Excitation Triplet in Open Cluster Dwarfs: Hyades
Oxygen abundances have been derived from the near-IR, high-excitation λ7774 O I triplet in high-resolution, high signal-to-noise spectra of 45 Hyades dwarfs using standard one dimensional, plane-parallel LTE models. Effective temperatures of the stellar sample range from 4319 − 6301 K, and the derived relative O abundances as a function of Teff evince a trichotomous morphology. At Teff > 6100 K...
